Returning to my Elk Lake collection of images, I had labeled this autumn capture for eventual processing. This photo was captured while I was a participant in a photography workshop held at Elk Lake, which is in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains.

As we meandered along Nellie Brook, we came across this intensely lit up tree. I could of sworn that it tapped me on my shoulder with one of its branches, as if to say; "you are going to stop and photograph me, aren't you?" Of course, I couldn't say no! ;)

The time I was there, the color was sporadic, but where it appeared, it was magnificent, as this tree clearly demonstrates. To highlight this tree of fire, I positioned my camera in the portrait/ vertical orientation. This also enabled me to use the birch trees ( and their reflections) to be perfect framing elements.
